The Environmental Services Branch performs functions that directly affect the healthcare facility's "environment of care," and assure compliance with accreditation, governmental and military standards pertaining to infection control, patient and staff safety, and cleanliness of healthcare facilities.
Environmental Services accomplishes its organizational role through performance of several program functions to include hospital housekeeping, linen management, regulated material waste, hazardous waste management, recycling and participation with clinical departments in development and implementation of infection control programs. Environmental Services' tasks are executed in compliance with several regulating agencies to include the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (TJC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as standing operating procedures established by the US Medical Command and the appropriate regional medical command.
